Kerry Marlov

Kerry Marlow retired with exemplary conduct as a Detective Inspector in South Wales Police after 34 years service, 29 of which had been in various CID roles.
He was the Force Interview Adviser for the last 4 years and on an ad hoc basis since 1995. His portfolios included, ACPO Regional interview Co-coordinator for Wales, ACPO Investigative Interview Strategy lead on Tier 5 (Interview Advisers), Vulnerable and intimidated witnesses and the use of intermediaries in interviews.
He was the Chair of the ACPO Interview Practitioners Forum. The forum is responsible for the production of guidance on prepared statements, aide memoir for officers involved in firearms incidents.
South Wales Police were a ‘Professionalising the investigation process’ (P.I.P) pathfinder force and he was integral to the baseline assessments and development of policies and procedures.
He is the Author of Structured Summary System and Notetaker a systematic system of notetaking and interview analysis.
He obtained a Bramshill Fellowship in 2002 and his research was on establishing a holistic model for investigators involved in the investigation of child abuse offences.
His research interests are on the interviewing of children and vulnerable adults. He has been a contributor to Achieving Best Evidence (2007). He has been an Adviser to the Welsh Assembly for the North Wales Child Abuse Enquiry.
He is currently a part time lecturer in Child Protection for the University of Wales, Newport and Swansea. Part time lecturer in the Protection of Vulnerable adults at Merthyr College.
He was a part of the writing team for the All Wales Child Protection Procedures and the ACPO Child Protection Training sub-group.
He has travelled extensively abroad providing advice and guidance to police forces and investigating agencies.
Kerry’s Current Position is the Managing Director of Investigative Interviewing Training and Consultancy Limited which is providing training and consultancy to the police, Social Services and other agencies on issues of child protection, adult protection, investigative doctrine and investigative interviewing.
