Learning to navigate business risks is a skill you must acquire. Anticipating and managing risks are becoming increasingly important for businesses across the globe. One learns from a very early age, to detect and deter risks around, and so it goes with the business.
A certified risk professional helps the company and the business grow. A risk management certification strengthens the profile of a professional and helps in increasing the value of the organisation by successfully managing risks. A certified risk professional identifies, analyses, assesses, controls, and mitigates the unacceptable hazards. Risks often arise from unpredictive or unknown events, legal liabilities, credit risks, financial market uncertainties, or threats of project failures.
One is often told to be cautious and able to handle risks at different stages of life. However, business risk professionals work with the process of determining, analysing, and mitigating the risk. A certified risk professional works towards building a foundation in business and finance. With tons of risk management certifications, RIMS-CRMP is the only competency-based risk management credential that is accredited globally.
The five simple steps to become a certified risk professional are:
Check on the eligibility of RIMS-CRMP!
The RIMS-CRMP certification validates one’s performance ability, technical knowledge, and quality work. It represents the standard of education, experience, and ethics required by the discipline.
The certification defines the highest achievement of risk management competencies for a risk management professional, and for them to apply the knowledge for the betterment of an organisation. With the aid of risk management courses, the risk professionals demonstrate their theoretical understanding of analysing gaps, designing strategies, and mitigating the risks in a firm.
The RIMS-CRMP certificate demonstrates that the professional can successfully manage risk and create value for the organisation.
Are you fascinated by the process of determining, analysing, and deterring risk, and are thinking to become a viable asset to the company? If you think you can build a career in risk management, then you should check on the RIMS-CRMP eligibility. The RIMS-CRMP eligibility differs for degree holder & experienced candidate and non-degree holder & experienced candidate.
Typically risk management specialists have at least a bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, finance, or another related field. The candidate may or may not have a master’s degree.
For the degree holders, a bachelor’s degree or higher in risk management and one year of full-time experience in risk management are required. If you are in the final year of your bachelor’s or higher degree in risk management, then too you are eligible. However, if you have completed your education in a non-risk management area, yet you have worked in the risk management industry for three or more years, you are qualified for the RIMS-CRMP certification.
The world is full of potential candidates but many could not complete their degrees. The degree shall not decide whether you are eligible or not, and so the non-degree holders can also be qualified. Without a degree, but with seven years of experience in the risk management industry, makes a professional fit for the RIMS-CRMP certificate. An associate in risk management designation and/or Canadian risk management designation also counts towards two years of risk management experience.
After checking the eligibility, the second step is to proceed to apply and sign up for the exam!
Just like any other exam, where you check on your eligibility and proceed to apply, you have to do the same for the RIMS-CRMP exam. The process to apply is simple and easy if your documents are ready. You wouldn’t want to pause the application and search your documents every time it requires something? For the RIMS-CRMP certification, the form requests you to provide an official university transcript from the registrar, the confirming dates of attendance, and/or an employment verification form signed by the supervisor or HR manager.
You as a candidate will have to complete the online application by filling in the contact information, code of ethics, disclosure, and attestations, higher academic education, qualifying employment experience, and then the payment.
Moving forward, you will be approved to sign up for the exam. You have to take the exam within the authorised six-months timeframe. If you miss your timeframe, the examination fee will forfeit, and you will have to reapply as a new applicant. You will be delighted to know that the RIMS-CRMP certification exam is offered throughout the year.
For the convenience of the candidate the RIMS-CRMP exam is available in two formats, i.e., computer-based test at Pearson VUE Test centres around the world and online proctored remote exam from a candidate’s home or office. For your safety and comfort, you can take the exam from your home or office for an uninterrupted process. All you need to do is specify the remote option and schedule the exam at the date and time convenient for you. Whether you are giving the exam from a remote location or the Pearson VUE testing centre, the exam itself is the same ANSI-accredited RIMS-CRMP exam.
For the remote location exam which will be proctored, you have to keep few things in your mind like the testing area must be a walled room with a closed door, the desk must be clear throughout the exam, no other individual can enter the room during the exam, the computer screen cannot be viewed by other individuals, breaks are not allowed during the test, and water in a clear glass is allowed but eating, smoking, chewing gum are prohibited.

Recertification is what distinguishes professional certification from other types of learning and development activities. Industries, laws, and other requirements are constantly changing, and professionals who pursue continuing education regularly are more informed and up to date with what is happening within their profession.
The recertification period begins on the certification date and ends two years on the first day of the month following the date of certification. Any subsequent recertification periods will run from the final day of the recertification month through the first day of the subsequent month after two years. RIMS-CRMP holders may submit the RIMS-CRMP Application for Recertification at any time during their two-year recertification cycle if they have attained the required 50 points.
Risk management certifications help professionals learn the organisational skills to assess and prioritise real and potential risks, and they often use matrices in the risk assessment process.
